Waitangi Day 2017 Mon Feb 6

Monday February 6th 2017 is the Public Holiday Waitangi Day. If the Employee works on a public holiday and that day would be the Employee's normal day of work, then in addition to payment for the above at 'time and a half', the Employee is entitled to an alternative holiday (which will be paid, when taken, at the Employee's relevant daily pay for the day off).

Zero Hour Contract Reminder

In April 2016 the Government passed the Employment Relations Amendment Act 2016 which saw a number of changes in employment law, including legislating against the use of “Zero-hour” contracts in employment agreements.

Contributory Fault

New Bill for Pay Equality Claims

The Government has accepted recommendations of a Joint Working Group to legislate how pay equity claims can be raised and resolved. This means that the Equal Pay Act and Employment Relations Act will be updated to make it easier for employees to file pay equity claims with their employers, rather than having to go through the courts....full story
